As important as it is to get the word out about your company’s presence at a trade show before and during the actual event, post-show protocol is equally essential and can be performed with greater ease than ever today through the use of social media platforms.

Post-Show

  • It’s all about the thank you-
    • Acknowledge attendees who took the time to stop by your booth.
    • Acknowledge your booth staff for the work they provided.
    • Don’t forget to give a few kudos to your exhibit house
  • Follow up with Leads
    • It takes 5-7 touches to create a memorable impact. Social media platforms offer another way to reach out to leads, but just remember to maintain your professionalism throughout.
    • More Statistics
      • it takes 8 -12 contacts before people are ready to but
      • 50% of all salespeople quit after only the 1st contact
      • another 40% quit after the 4th contact
      • 10% of sales happen after the 4th contact
      • 80% of all sales happen on or after the 5th contact
  • Upload photos to a Flikr or Facebook album
  • Upload video to Youtube or Facebook
  • Write a post-show highlights Blog
  • Share strategically* with attendees, prospects, staff and anyone relevant
    • *Throwing out too much information at once can result in being tuned out completely. It is important to create a strategy that shares content in a speedy, interesting and meaningful way.

At All Stages: Create A Conversation – Before, during and after the show

  • Listen
    • Remain knowledgeable about the conversations that are taking place about your industry
    • Continue searches and keep updated on relevant feeds.
  • Invite
    • No one likes to get “talked at.” Invite a two-way conversation with questions (general or direct), polls, links, etc…
  • Respond
    • Respond to all feedback, both positive and negative.

This is a general guideline with suggestions on how to maximize your social media usage. It is important to consider which platforms and strategies work best for your specific company’s goals and needs and for the audience you intend to reach.
