Relay for Life: While you are sleeping...
While you are sleeping Friday night, June 11th, Hill & Partners will be participating the Braintree, Milton, Quincy, Relay for Life Cancer Walk being held at Braintree High School. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events, and each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.
Hill & Partners believes in promoting and fostering a culture of “giving back”. Research show the old adage, “its better to give than to receive” is indeed true after all. We believe it’s important to offer our employees a new perspective on their own life and believe individuals should be pushed to step outside of their comfort zone, to take initiatives and realize that any one person can make a difference. Community service is a wonderful, empowering message.
While you are sleeping on Friday, June 11th, H&P will take part in three significant relay events. The first is a Survivors Lap. This is an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. The Survivors Lap is an emotional example of how Relay participants are creating a world of hope and possibilities.
After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk this lap in silence.
Last, there is a Fight Back Ceremony, where we make a personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer.
Now, if you think for a minute this event will be all work and no play, while you are sleeping Friday night, June 11th, then you have misjudged the culture here at Hill & Partners. My coworkers are by far the most competitive, fun loving group I have ever known. Whether we are bowling, racing at F1 or decorating our campsite for the relay contest, good old fashion fun and the desire to be the best is never in short supply. And yes, I know what you’re thinking; do I really want to see what my co-workers look like first thing in the morning? The answer is no, but the fight of finding a cure for cancer, making a difference in someone life and giving back will all be worth it.
