On this edition of Who Knew?, we present to you Matt Johnson, our VP of Accounts, who has a passion for photography.
I have had a casual interest in photography for as long as I can remember. I always thought is was really interesting that a photograph could elicit certain emotions from people depending on what the subject matter was. I can remember being younger and looking through old photos. I would be instantly brought back to that point in time and be able to remember exactly what was going on. I just thought it was amazing. I wanted to be able to create those memories for others by taking impactful photographs. Easier said than done!!! I didnt really put much effort into learning how to take photos until the past few years. Now that I have a better understanding of how to create better photos, my interest level has gone up exponentially. I still have tons to learn, but I can see improvement and that is enough to keep me going.
I like to shoot all different kinds of subject matter from portraits to landscapes to candids. If I can capture a great moment, I really don’t mind what it is. I am a visual person so I can appreciate the nuances of a photograph. I would much rather look through a book of photographs than read a regular book. I can still experience a story through each photograph. For me, the cliche is true - a photo is worth a thousand words.
I don’t have a single favorite photo but there are a few of which I am proud. Interestingly enough, some of those photos were the result of luck more than anything else. I have a cool photo inside the Colosseum in Rome and another underneath a pier in Adelaide Australia. I have several favorites of my wife and kids as well. I live in Southeast Mass, close to Providence and Newport, which provide endless opportunities for some great local shots.
I’m always looking for new locations and subjects to shoot.. that is what is so great about photography - there is always a new opportunity to capture and preserve that perfect moment in time!
